Iron Cross 1st Class 1939, with screw-on backing plate. The cross is made in three parts: an iron core and a screw-on backing plate. Overall, the cross is in very good condition with only minimal wear. The core is completely blackened, while the frame has a fine, untouched patina. On the reverse, centered on the 6 o'clock arm, is the coded maker's mark "L/12" for the company CE Juncker of Berlin. On the 12 o'clock arm of the cross is the prong for the anti-rotation pin, with the threaded hole for the screw-on backing plate in the center (outer diameter 5,02 mm). The screw-on backing plate has a diameter of 28,7 mm. Dimensions of the cross: 44,37 × 44,28 mm, weight: 18,64 g.
All Iron Crosses 1st Class with screw-on discs are generally purchased replacements. Awarding crosses always have a pin. Therefore, crosses with screw-on discs are generally rarer than crosses with pins. The Juncker crosses marked "L/12" are a particularly rare and sought-after variant of these crosses.
Rare variant, in very good condition.
