German Cross in Gold (DKiG), maker's mark 20 (CF Zimmermann, Pforzheim) . The DKiG is made in several parts; the base plate is made of Cupal (copper-plated aluminum), the radiating and laurel wreaths are made of non-ferrous metal, and the swastika is enameled black. It is in very good condition with only minimal wear. The base plate is fully silvered, the radiating wreath almost completely blackened. The laurel wreath is fully gilded, with polished edges and raised areas. The center of the cross has a complete, frosted silvering with slight patina. The black enamel in the swastika shows minimal wear but no chips or cracks. The reverse features the four typical hollow rivets and the familiar pin system. The pin holder, a folding type, is inserted into the base plate of the cross. The pin hook is a sturdy C-hook with a wide base. The hook is soldered onto a small oval base plate, which is also embedded in the reverse of the German cross. This is a typical design for a lightweight carpenter's cross. The underside of the pin bears the coded manufacturer's mark "20" for the company CF Zimmermann of Pforzheim. The German Cross in Gold was one of the highest decorations for bravery in the Third Reich. It was awarded for repeated acts of bravery.
