The care of war victims under National Socialism was based on an organizational and ideological reorganization of the existing welfare system. In 1933, the National Socialist War Victims' Welfare Association (NSKOV) was founded as the official party organization of the NSDAP. It assumed the legal succession and assets of the previously dissolved, pluralistic associations of the Weimar Republic and brought about a centralization of advocacy.
The welfare system was directly tied to the regime's political directives. Benefits such as pensions, medical assistance, and vocational reintegration were legally restricted to individuals who met the criteria of "adaptation" and "genetically healthy."
From an economic and military perspective, the provision of care for war victims focused on restoring the ability of those affected to work and perform their duties.
